I’m a firm believer in small replacement blade knives for caping and fine work. I want SHARP and EFFICIENT. Sure, I like edging a blade with a sharping stone around the campfire in most cases but in Outfitting and mountain hunts….. “time is money.” If I’m on the hillside or in a spike camp trying to shave weight by caping out a skull, I want to be quick and precious. Replacement blades save me time and weight. Combine that with a sleek, slim, titanium handle and you’ve got the ultimate lightweight set up.
Previously I carried Havalon folders in my bino harness and pack lids. They proved their worth but eventually hinges would fail or their bulkiness found them slipping out of safe keep. Frontiersman’s thin leather sheath and TYTO’s thin ultralight handle mitigate hinge failures and make safe compact storage flawless. My only change was the lanyard attachment. I used a small key ring instead to attach the lanyard to the sheath. One time I pressed the blade a little too far into the sheath, slicing the lanyard clean. The key ring now protects the lanyard from future errors of mine. I give the set up a 10/10 for functionality and construction. I give it a 11/10 for aesthetics and authenticity.
